So this is the Women Done Wrong Collection. I’m including a small write up of how they were done wrong. Feel free to skip it. There’s no quiz;)

Frida Kahlo was promising student headed for medical school until a traffic accident at age eighteen, that killed several people and fractured Kahlo’s ribs, displaced three vertebrae broke her legs and her collarbone. An iron handrail impaled her through her pelvis, fracturing the pelvic bone. This caused her lifelong pain and medical problems. The illness forced her to be isolated, and made her reclusive. One of her friends Andrés Henestrosa stated that Kahlo “lived dying” Eventually, She began a relationship with Rivera, who was 20 years her senior, and had two common-law wives. Regardless, her father approved of Rivera, who was wealthy and therefore able to support Kahlo, who could not work and had to receive expensive medical treatment undergoing an appendectomy, two abortions, and the amputations of her toes, and countless other operations, during her marriage. While that both had extramarital affairs (both with women) it was his affair with her baby sister that hurt her most. Through her pain she paints, throughout her life it was her outlet, but was not given recognition for it, while husband was for his works. Finally in 1954 she finally had her first show, and it opened to great reviews!! By that point her pain was unbearable, and simply breathing was excruciating. One week after her first and only show, Frida Kahlo Died. The official cause of death for her was pulmonary embolism, although no autopsy was performed. Kahlo, in fact, committed suicide. The nurse, who counted Kahlo’s painkillers, stated that Kahlo had taken an overdose the night. She had also given her husband an anniversary present that evening, over a month in advance. She was 47 years old.

Ida B. Wells was born into slavery and freed by the emancipation proclamation she was an investigative journalist, with her own paper until the KKK destroyed her newspaper office and presses for telling the horrors of lynching complete with names. She was an educator, dismissed from her teaching post by the Memphis Board of Education due to her articles that criticized conditions in the black schools of the region. She was one of the founders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).[1] but was originally excluded from the list of founders in her autobiography, Wells stated that Du Bois deliberately excluded her from the list. Du Bois felt women had no place in activism. Wells arguably became the most famous black woman in America, during a life that was centered on combating prejudice and violence, who fought for equality for African Americans, especially women. Despite men telling her to stay home and have babies!

Jackie Mitchell

$16.00

Jackie Mitchell – she’s a boys club blue with a strong purple shimmer that shifts aqua, and iridescent flakes in lavender and pink that shift green, gold, amber, and turquoise.

Jackie Mitchell was one of the first female pitchers in professional baseball history. Pitching for the Chattanooga Lookouts Class AA minor league baseball team! During the exhibition game against the New York Yankees, she struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in succession when she was 17, baseball commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis voided her contract declaring women unfit to play baseball as the game was “too strenuous. Guess they were upset a woman could strike out their best players back to back. She tried to continue playing but eventually retired in 1937 at the age of 23  furious at being used as a side show attraction being asked to pitch while riding a donkey. The end of a promising career all because she was a woman!! Jackie Mitchell is a Woman Done Wrong, we honor and thank you!

Joan Of Arc was a young peasant girl who said God spoke to her and told her to lead the French army to victory. She led her army in thirteen battles winning nine. In the end, Joan was ordered to answer some 70 charges against her, including witchcraft, heresy, and dressing like a man. She was convicted and burned at the stake at 19 years old. Malala Yousafzai

$16.00

Malala Yousafzai she wears a lot of pink and purple so I made a combination of those colors. I would call this a heavy shifting iridescent? She’s not quite a multi chrome but not a simple iridescent either so I’m compromising with heavy iridescent. So she is a purpley pink she has little shifts green, gold, and aqua. She also has iridescent flakes in purple, green, and pink flakes that also shift aqua, gold, amber, and blue

Malala Yousafzai – also known mononymously as Malala, is a Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate. She is known for human rights advocacy, especially the education of women and children in her native Swat Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northwest Pakistan, where the local Taliban had at times banned girls from attending school. Her advocacy has grown into an international movement at age 15 she was shot in the head by the Taliban She survived the attack but continues to live under taliban threats.

Marie Antoinette

$11.00

Maria Antoinette is a pastel aqua jelly with a strong pink shimmer, iridescent pick shards, as well as holographic shards. I also included iridescent flakes in pink, green, & gold.

Marie Antoinette- The queen of France was married at 14, and things only got worse. She was vilified by the French press from the moment she arrived because she was Austrian. She was accused of being promiscuous with men and women. Was the subject of pornography from the age of 14, and accused of being responsible for the French Revolution. The truth… She never had a single affair. She spent less than anyone else in the royal family choosing to wear a casual cheap white dress when at home. Who was the spender in the family? Well, it was her husband and his brother they spent it like it was water. Ultimately she was beheaded at the age of 37 and died the most hated woman in France.

Mata Hari

$11.00

This is Mata Hari, (inspired by her costume)- she is a gold flake base with jewel-tone glitter in red, blue, green, & purple flakes. Mata Hari was an independent woman (that was rare for the time), a divorcee, a citizen of a neutral country, a courtesan, and a dancer. This made her a perfect scapegoat for the French, who were then losing the war. She was held up as an example of what might happen to women of loose morals. When she was executed, she refused a blindfold, and defiantly blew a kiss to the firing squad just as they took aim. Gotta love her defiance!
